 During the Autumn months and into the Winter, the possibility of having to drive in foggy conditions increases in the UAE. Driving in such conditions brings additional hazards for all drivers regardless of skill or experience.

 Before entering fog, check your mirrors and slow down. If the ‘Fog’ is shown on the roadside, signal but the road is clear, be prepared for a bank of fog or drifting patchy fog ahead. Even if it seems to be clearing, you can find yourself in a thick fog.

 Wherever possible it should be avoided, but if you MUST drive in fog you should:

• Slow down

• Avoid driving unfamiliar routes and locations

• Use your lights (front AND rear) as require

• Beware of strain and fatigue if travelling long distances-take rest brakes as needed

• Keep a safe distance behind the vehicle in front. Rear lights can give a false sense of Security

• Be able to pull up well within the distance you can see clearly.

• Use your widescreen wipers and demisters

• Be aware of other drivers not using headlights

• Do not accelerate to get away from a vehicle which is too close behind you

• Check your mirrors before you slow down. Then use your brake lights to warn drivers behind you that you are slowing down
